Do you ever get in the mood to get rid of stuff? I do, quite frequently. But I don’t always take action because I don’t know what to throw away. I’m either too attached to it or feel bad about not selling it.
I’ve only sold a few things on Ebay before. I didn’t like the stress of running to the post office at a moment’s notice so I wouldn’t get a bad review. I’ve also tried Craigslist without success.
Moving means reducing
We lost two rooms when we moved to LA. Which means we had to do some downsizing. Even though I reduced, we still have too much stuff!
I need someone to help me figure out what to keep or get rid of. It’s hard when there’s an emotional attachment. It’s not even that I’m a sentimental person. It’s just that I feel bad about getting rid of gifts people gave me; or I realize how much money I spent on something, and don’t have the heart to toss it.
I really don’t need that bed
Anyway, this week I’m taking action. There’s a single-sized bed that’s almost six years old in the spare room; and we’re tossing it! Plus, I’m donating all the extra bedding to the Goodwill down the street.
I was hanging on to it because I thought Zoe could use it someday; and it’s handy to have if we have overnight guests. Well, we’ve only had one guest in the eight months we’ve been here. And Zoe won’t need it for quite a while. It’s taking up valuable space – so Zubair and I finally decided to dispose of it.
I feel so free! I don’t know why we didn’t do this earlier. I’ve been thinking about it for a while… Now there’s more room for Zoe and the babysitter to play.
I read about people living simply, and getting rid of everything but the essentials. I give them so much credit. We don’t have a lot of space, and hardly any storage. I want to reduce about a third of the stuff that we own, but it’s so hard. Why am I so attached to my stuff? I would enjoy my apartment more if there was less stuff.
Okay, so what else can I get rid of?
