After reading an article about a woman who reduced her personal belongings to 100 items, I was motivated to clean out my closet. I’ve been wanting to do it for a while, so I finally had the push I needed.
I said goodbye to some high heels that I’ll probably never wear again. Trying them on one last time sealed the deal – they are way too high and uncomfortable. My taste in shoes has changed since I became a mom. In fact, my husband has inspired me to only purchase comfortable shoes from now on. Thankfully, there are some beautiful flats out there!
I also got rid of a few bags and wallets. My mother insists that I send the wallets to her – she just can’t seem to part with them. The rest I’ll donate to the Goodwill down the street.
Filling up a large trash bag with items I haven’t used in ages felt so great; though, I still have some work to do. I know I need to sever ties with some clothes that don’t fit, but I keep telling myself that I’ll be able to wear them again someday… In reality, by the time they fit again, I won’t like them anymore.
Now, about only owning 100 personal items… I don’t know if I could do it. But it’s definitely a worthy goal. I’m quite sure it would be much easier to keep organized. Not to mention the ease of getting ready in the morning. Plus, packing for our next move would be a cinch!
I like the idea of purchasing less but higher quality items. No more impulse buys on cheap stuff that won’t last the test of time. Now, this is what I call frugal!
How am I doing?
Great! This week went by so quickly – I can hardly believe it. Plus, we celebrated our anniversary, so I had something to look forward to. I am still thinking about those shoes though… I might get them since I got rid of several other pairs!
When is the last time your purged your closet? What do you think about only owning 100 personal items?
